Leonard Hoehn Status Update
Category PersonalYou may recall my father in law suffered a massive stroke back in December. Following is an excerpt from a status update Tanya sent out yesterday:
Dear Friends and Family,
Dad is doing better - slow progress, but we'll take any progress we can get! He still cannot swallow, walk or use his right side. He cannot speak clearly and we think he might be transposing syllables: for example, "I suppose" comes out "I puhsose." This makes it a little difficult to understand, but if he just keeps it up, we can figure out the gist of what he wants to say sometimes. He seems to be able to read small phrases, but cannot read a book or magazine. We can communicate "yes/no" questions on a whiteboard. He cannot write, but we are trying to get his left hand going. He can sit for longer periods of time now, and he is in a wheelchair for a couple of hours a day. He also attends speech and physical therapy to give him the best chances of recovery.
He really enjoyed hearing a recent letter from Donna, so we are asking for any encouraging letters, cards, emails, etc. that you would like us to read to him. He likes hearing about the good old days as well as current events. His memory seems to be in tact for the most part. Photos are also a good idea - from long ago or brand new. Does anyone have the photo of his Henry J? I know there was one on the cool DVD about Grandma & Grandpa Hoehn. He proudly pointed it out to Devin and I - If I remember correctly, it was a shot of the back or the side of it. I would love to enlarge it and hang it in his room. I think he would like that.
...
Thank you once again for your thoughts, support and prayers....
Yes, thank you again for all your prayers.
